A Lifetime of Service to Our Community
Growing up in McKinley County, Brenna Clani-Washinawatok (Navajo/Diné) witnessed the real challenges local families faced from public safety concerns to economic hardship. Driven by a belief that justice should be accessible and fair to all, Brenna dedicated her career to public service.
After graduating from Stanford University and earning her Juris Doctorate from the University of New Mexico, Brenna returned home to make a difference in San Juan County and McKinley County. Over her 20-year legal career, Brenna has handled complex cases in federal, state, and tribal courts, served as a criminal prosecutor, child support hearing officer, domestic violence commissioner, and now District Judge presiding over hundreds of cases.
Brenna was appointed by New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in March 2025 becoming the first Native American woman to sit as a District Judge in the 11th Judicial District.
Brenna’s appointment ends this year. In order to continue serving the citizens of San Juan County and McKinley County, Brenna is running as a judicial candidate in the 2026 election.
The people of San Juan County and McKinley County deserve a judge who understands their experiences and makes fair, impartial decisions.
